#JohnRemembers – A Personal View of London’s Architecture was the culmination of a month long Instagram competition bringing together creative champions from across the design community and members of the public to reveal the stories behind London’s architecture.
The challenge was to post an image of a building, detail or view online with a caption on the memory it holds for the writer. The best of these, alongside special contributions from the likes of Peter Murray, Sarah Mann, Laura Marks and Bompas and Parr were turned into an exhibition to line the walls of Dreamspace Gallery, Clerkenwell.
The exhibition echoed the Instagram grid style with bold exploded images and square postcards which could be picked off the wall by visitors to reveal quotes and memories beneath. In this way, it was designed to be interactive and ever changing, much like the city itself. The largest featured image belonged to the competition winner – an eye-catching composition from Martyn Clarke with his personal story featured alongside.
The exhibition ran from 23rd June to 14th July as part of the London Festival of Architecture 2017 which JRA supported as Patrons
