To celebrate the 2012 London Festival of Architecture, John Robertson Architects held a special exhibition, Sponge-scraper City.
During the weekend, JRA created a scale model entirely from sponge cake of Fleet Street’s historic St Bride’s Church – Sir Christopher Wren’s masterpiece.
The model and an accompanying exhibition of the history of this fascinating building, was to support the INSPIRE! Appeal – launched in March 2012 to fund the urgent repair and restoration of St Bride’s tiered spire, said to have been the inspiration for the design of the modern wedding cake.
JRA served sponge cake and tea to visitors, donating all money raised to the INSPIRE! Appeal.

The exhibition ran from 23rd-24th June 2012 at John Robertson Architects, 111 Southwark Street, London SE1 0JF
